The terrace level sitting room is our library, "Polyhymnia" (muse of oratory and sacred poetry), a very spacious room with authentic stone walls, huge hand-hewn beams, and a tile floor. In this room are reading chairs, a comfortable sofa, work-tables, a high-speed printer and a wood-burning stove.
The library opens onto the terrace and gardens through French doors. There’s an adjoining kitchen for use at mealtimes, which alternate with quiet hours to minimize noise in the library. The library has its own WC.
The library is La Muse’s primary common workspace. Like any library, this is a place where nobody talks during quiet hours (those working on collaborations can work quietly together in their private rooms), but where people gather in the evenings to read, play Scrabble or Chinese checkers, or to talk quietly. More animated post-dinner conversation is usually kept to the dining room, also off the terrace on the other side of the kitchen. Those who wish to work at night are encouraged to do so in their rooms.
