Gaylord Brewer

Who: Gaylord Brewer.

Where: Tennessee, United States. Born Louisville, Kentucky.

What: Gaylord is a poet and playwright who came to La Muse a few years ago and will always be remembered for his southern cocktail hour, beautiful - and thank God - original, funny and fun poems as well as his valiant efforts finishing the mad Onion walk (cf. his poem from Give Over, Graymalkin, “The Walk”) from Mazamet with the even madder Australian writer John Clanchy.

He’s also a professor at Middle Tennessee State University, where he has edited the journal Poems & Plays and taught since 1993. In 2009, he was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Tennessee Arts Commission and his poetry was also published in The Best American Poetry, 2006.

In His Words:

(Here’s Gaylord reading some of his own poems and one of Neruda’s):

Recently Gaylord very kindly sent us on his latest collection of great poems: Give Over, Graymalkin. The third section of poems “South to North” were written at La Muse. Some of the titles might remind you of being here: “After Buying a Rabbit at the Carcassonne Market,” “Upon the Third Day Returned to France, at the Old Church on the Hill”…
