Who: Ase Pleym Bakken
Where: Norway
What: Ase is an abstract artist who paints expressionistic, spontaneous work. Her ideal is “to capture a moment of experience,” whether it’s inspired by music, travel, meetings with people, or from something she’s read.
Sentences can frequently appear, parts of words or just letters, as well as phrases, often from English, French or Italian, in her work. Ase’s concerned with detail and simplifying things down to the “smallest constituent,” a “view of something,” enlarged.
In Her Words:
I like to think about art as to create something new, and that it will create curiosity. I want my paintings to give the viewer positive images and perhaps associations that are possible to recognize.
